Potholes are unappealing and can cause damage to vehicles, machinery, and equipment moving through your facility. During a busy season, potholes pose a greater danger than ever. If you are looking for quality pothole repair that lasts far longer than the next rainstorm, Cassidy Paving can help.
What Causes Potholes?
Engineer Alan Brubaker offers this concise explanation of potholes, “”Potholes are holes in the roadway that vary in size and shape. They are caused by the expansion and contraction of groundwater after the water has entered the ground under the pavement. If the water freezes and thaws over and over, the pavement will weaken and continue cracking.”” Natural changes in temperature, along with excessive moisture, are two of the biggest contributors to pothole damage we’ve seen in our decades of paving experience. And the wetter or colder the weather gets, the more likely potholes are to spread and worsen.
How Are Potholes Repaired?
There are multiple methods for pothole repair, but not all of them are equally effective. Some are only temporary fixes. Others are not a good fit based on the type/extent of damage in your facility. Depending on what we learn about the potholes on your property, we may recommend cut and patch repairs, overlay/resurfacing, or full-depth reconstruction. Cut-and-patch is great for repairing damage at or near surface level, and overlays are effective for damage up to 10 inches below the surface. Full depth reconstruction is only necessary for the most extensive pothole damage.
