Benefits of Asphalt Curbs
Every asphalt parking lot will benefit from asphalt curbing in numerous ways. For example, they are used to prevent cars from driving off the edge of the parking lot, they help protect landscape islands that have been placed inside the parking lot, and they can keep mud from being washed onto the parking lot during heavy rain storms. Lastly, asphalt curbs can also help divert water runoff so it moves away from the parking lot and toward catch basins.
Asphalt Curb Repair
If you already have asphalt curbs and they need repairs, you will notice the signs. Since an asphalt curb has been placed directly on top of another asphalt surface, there is not a sufficient base to offer support. It’s important that your paving contractor backfills the curb with dirt to provide the support it needs.
An asphalt curb that is not backfilled will crack and break when hit by a car or a snowplow. In some cases, the force of a car or a snowplow will knock a section of curb completely off of the asphalt surface.
Asphalt curbs need to be repaired when either the curb is cracked, broken, smashed down, or is not performing the function it was originally installed.
