When it comes to asphalt paving, there are many ways in which to get the best outcome. Asphalt pavement is a tried and true method for driveways, parking lots, and everything in between. With our expert knowledge, we can help you find the best design and processes to get the most out of your new pavement. One of the Cassidy Paving priorities is to educate our customers to ensure that they are ready for paving when the time comes. Let’s cover the major asphalt processes that we use:
Asphalt Milling
One of the great things about asphalt is that it is sustainable and often made up of recycled materials. Because we will use recycled materials in this process, it saves the customer money. This is one of the more budget-friendly pavement processes that we offer and it is the most popular. When we mill, we remove the old asphalt pavement to a controlled depth. The great thing about this process is that we are fully in control of how much of the old asphalt is removed for recycling. We then take that old asphalt to the processing plant to be re-crushed and made into new asphalt material. This process leaves the subbase intact so that we don’t have to add on additional costs for that replacement. It also saves time because it is less time consuming to only take off the top layer. This asphalt process cannot, unfortunately, be used for every pavement need. It is most commonly used to treat superficial unevenness, holes, and cracks, as well as slight drainage issues. More advanced issues will not be a candidate for milling. Our experts can determine this during the estimate phase.
Asphalt Full Depth Reclamation
The Asphalt Recycling and Reclamation Association defines full depth reclamation as “a reclamation technique in which the full flexible pavement section and a predetermined portion of the underlying materials are uniformly crushed, pulverized, or blended, resulting in a stabilized base course”. The best candidates for this process are low to medium traffic lots but can be used in parking lots and roads. Our crew has all of the equipment required to pulverize the existing pavement and subsurfaces and turn it into a new mixture for repaving. All of the materials we dig up will be combined for a strong new foundation for new asphalt. This helps keep costs down by reusing materials and cutting down the costs of hauling debris away.
